Taps : Joseph D DeMarco CO-B/194th Glider Infantry

Category : Veterans Taps

It is with a heavy heart and my deepest sympathy that we learn of the passing of another of our Distinguished Veterans and a Valued Comrade. In a message from his Widow, Mrs Josephine DeMarco, and several other Friends in the Orchard Park area, we learned that Mr. Joseph D DeMarco, Co B, 194th GIR passed away on 8 December 2009. As a very personal Friend of the DeMarco Family, it was very easy to contact the Family to obtain the essential information for this message.

Main-Ban-Taps

Following his service in World War II Mr DeMarco returned to the New York area and was employed in the “Tool and Die” business. At the same time he worked part time with his Father as a “Brick Layer”. After some 15 years he formed his own Masonry Company there in the New York area. After some forty years he retired to enjoy some of his favorite hobbies. He loved Golf, Travel and enjoyed watching all Sports. Needless to say he was an avid “Buffalo Bills” fan and supporter.
Mr. DeMarco joined our Association in 1962 and remained a dues paying Member through 2007. They attended some 40 Annual Reunions and made one trip overseas with Joe Quade. For the past several years the DeMarco’s have spent the winter months in Florida but due to health reasons did not plan to go to Florida this year.
If I may, on a personal note, I have been very close to the Demarco Family. During my entire stay with the 17th Airborne Division, from May 1943 until June 1945, I was with either Co A or Co B, 194th GIR. Many of our Company Comrades such as Matus, Simko, Vogel, Braesaker and now DeMarco have passed on with Dillon, Edwards, Marincola, Erickson, Wishard, Ishom and myself still around. It is with a heavy heart that I relive those days at Camp Mackall, the Tennessee Maneuvers, the Battle of the Bulge and Operation Varsity with those great Heroes.

For the past eight years or so Mr Demarco was a victim of Parkinson’s Disease. This is a disease that effects the movement and mussel control. The cause of death was Congestive Heart Failure at the age of 85.
