We Had to Eat Dead Comrades & Prisoners

Many of you guys will probably say that this doesn’t happen. Many of you guys will say that the Russians weren’t that way. Many of you will say many things and I will ask you back : do you was there ?

I am not willing to make a big story of this but only to show what happened to lot of German soldiers captured by the Russian Troops during the Second World War.
The items I am showing bellow are the only one that the father of my wife brought back from Russia in 1948. I think there is no caption needed to explain the conditions the were in. Sure you will say that these German killed over 20.000.000 Russians, they rapped, they tortured and killed Russian kids and Russians women.
I can’t myself find a way out to get out of these question because the answer ‘this is what they deserved’ is burning my lips. In fact I can find a way while asking myself why did some soldiers got trough this horrible experience when probably 80% or 90% of the real Nazis – and even those who really killed – got trough the game without any hurt and became after the end of the War … very respectable ‘Heer’ …
I have made a part of my way into life with this man called Heinz. He never told my anything else that he was trapped in central Russia during the year 1943 and with several thousands other, was send to Siberia where he didn’t quit making Artillery Shells from 1944 to 1948.
One day, some weeks before his last day came, he told me that the most terrible thing he had to do in his entire life, was cutting peace of flesh from dead comrades. He didn’t say that it was the only way to survive but I saw into his eyes that he knew that I had understood this.

The items bellow are the one he brought back from Siberia : a main pouch made of the inside pocket of a German Wool Field Jacket, another one made of the First Aid Pocket, a knife and spoon to eat, soap like I never saw before, German Buttons, and 1 needle.
