It is with a heavy heart and my deepest sympathy that we learn of the passing of another of our Distinguished Veterans and a Valued Comrade. Through a phone call from the Family to Bill Smith, who passed the sad news on, we learned that Mr. Donald B. Canfield, Co E, 193rd GIR, passed away on 12 November 2009. I have recently been in contact with the Canfield Family, concerning the planned 2010 trip to Europe, so it was relative easy to contact the Family to obtain the essential information for this message.

Following his service in World War II Mr. Canfield was employed for over 40 years by Bethlehem Steel as a Manager in the Information Services area that included the Computer field. In retirement he enjoyed traveling, tennis and was very active in Church and Community Affairs. The Canfield’s participated in several trips to Europe that were sponsored by Joe Quade. He joined our Association in 1981, became a Life Member in 1994 and attended some 11 Annual 17th Airborne Division Association Reunions. In his later years Mr. Canfield was a victim of Liver Cancer. In spite of his health problems he stayed very active and played tennis just a couple of days prior to his death. The cause of death was a Heart Attack at the age of 85.
The Obituary and the Guest Book information is available at legacy.com and mcall.com (Both are identical). The Guest Book will remain on line until 15 December 2009. The Obituary as published in Morning Call today, 15 November 2009 is as follows :
