(Taps) Ollie E. Hawkins 155 ABAA

Category : Veterans Taps

It is with a heavy heart and my deepest sympathy that we belatedly learn of the passing of a Family Member of one of our Distinguished Veterans and a Valued Comrade. In a message from George Hudicka we learned that Mrs. Ollie E. Hawkins, Widow of Mr. William K. Hawkins, Hq 155th Abn AA, passed away on 8 October 2009. With assistance from several individuals, (George Hudicka, Ed Siergiej, Mrs Bev Zimmerman, and the Gasch Funeral Home) I was able to contact the Hawkins Family to obtain the essential information for this message.

Main-Ban-Taps

Following his service in World War II Mr & Mrs Hawkins lived in the Washington DC Metropolitan area. Mr. Hawkins was employed by the Transit System in Washington DC. He started out as an operator of the old Street Cars (Trolley) system and later as a Bus Operator. Mrs. Ollie Hawkins was employed by the National Geographic as a Secretary for many years. Their major hobbies were working on their large Farm in Virginia where they enjoyed working with the livestock and gardening. Mr. Hawkins passed away on 17 July 1983. Mrs. Ollie Hawkins joined our Organization in 1985 and attended some 15 Annual Reunions. She was a very generous contributor to the Association’s General and Memorial Funds. The cause of death was Natural Causes at the age of 90 years.
