Hello. I am trying to find out how and when my father, 1st LT. John Lavett, was severely injured sometime (late in day to months) after AM December 23, 1944. He was the mortar platoon leader in the 7th AD, 17th Bat. It was an end-of-war injury.

Dear Gunter,

My name is Danny Dohmen, 28 years old and I am from the Netherlands.
First I will explaine why I send this email, and than I have a question.

The reason I write to you is because I adopted a grave from an American World War II Soldier, burried in the American Memorial Cemetry at Margraten in the Netherlands.
For me its a Honor to adopt a grave from a soldier who died for my freedom. A couple of weeks ago I received an email about a job as a volunteer for buiding up a database about soldiers from WWII who died in and around holland : www.adoptiegraven-database.nl
I applied for this job, because I am happy that I can do something back to keep the memories of these heroes alive. In this database we try to give basic information about all of the soldiers from the American WWII cemeteries : Margraten Netherlands, Ardennes Belgium and Henri Chapelle.
At this moment I am trying to find information about Cpl Edward F Fulara. I found some good basic information already but maybe, if it's possible, you can help me with more information about this hero ?

- Edward F Fulara
- ID : 32253319
- Entered the Service From : New York
- Rank : Corporal
- Service : US Army, 40th Tank Battalion, 7th Armored Division
- Died : March 29, 1945
- Buried at : Netherlands American Cemetery
- Location : Margraten, Netherlands, Plot : E, Row : 15, Grave : 9
- Awards : Purple Heart

I hope to hear from you soon, and thank you for your time.
Sincerly

I discovered General Orders awarding the Combat Infantryman Badge (CIB) to a substantial number of members assisgned to the 7th AD.

According to War Department Circular 269, dated 27 October 1943, hundreds (if not more) were authorized, and awarded the CIB to personnel without MOS of an infantryman.

Yet, today because the Army is following more recent guidelines (not retroactive) that require the MOS of an infantryman, an untold number of WWII veterans, and next of kin are being denied.

How about the Uniform Code of Military Justice, Article 92, Failure to Obey Order or Regulation?

I am the granddaughter of one of the company commanders, Ralph L. Burt, from 129th Armored Ordnance Maintenance Battalion of 7th Armored Division. My husband and I are currently stationed in Germany and are planning our trip to the Normandy region for the 65th Anniversary of D-Day. I know that 7th didn't come into France until a little later, but would like to retrace as many of the steps 129th took. I have some of my grandfather's papers. Could someone help me with a map or list of towns and dates for 129th. I could only find a general map for 7th Armored Div. and know that 129th didn't necessarily follow the same footsteps. Please help! My husband deploys to the sandbox again and we would like to do as much as we can as a family before he leaves to teach our children about how wonderful my grandfather was and where he was in Europe. He was truly a great man in every way! I will also be planning to attend the memorial dedication in September. Any information would be helpful in planning our route. Thank you very much!
